‘The only positives’: Manchester United duo praised despite Red Devils’ first-half struggles vs Villarreal

Villarreal vs Manchester United

Manchester United’s first game of the post-Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era would see them face a trip to Spain for a clash with Villarreal in the Champions League.

Both Villarreal and Man United began the day on seven points from their first four CL group games of the seaosn, though United were top of the group thanks to them having scored more goals.

But with United’s Champions League group so tight at present, a loss for any side on the evening could prove to be detrimental to their hopes of making it into the latter stages of the competition.

This may go some way to explaining why we saw a very cagey first 45. Villarreal would dominate play for large periods in the opening 45, but neither outfit looked too desperate to score.

And, when the first-half drew to a close, the scoreline was still at 0-0 with no real clear-cut chance having prestened itself so far.

Sancho & Van de Beek praised

On the whole, Carrick’s first 45 in charge of Man United was probably not what fans were hoping for.

However, fans have managed to pick out a couple of positives from a Man United perspective.

Those were the performances of Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek. Sancho, in particular, looked bright against the Spaniards and created a few half-chances when he was able to receive the ball in decent areas.

And now, the duo have been praised online by fans, with just some of the tweets shown below:
