Man United dressing room buzzing after Mauricio Pochettino expectations

Man United players expecting Pochettino appointment

Manchester United was left reeling after their shock 4-1 loss against Watford at Vicarage Road at the weekend in a result that cost Ole Gunnar Solskjær his job at the club that made him famous after his last-gasp winner against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final.

But there is a buzz amongst the players in the Old Trafford dressing room amidst the expectations that Mauricio Pochettino is destined to become their next boss at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to the Mirror’s Chief Football Writer John Cross, United players are already talking about Pochettino in the dressing room at United with anticipation that the current PSG headmaster is set to be pried away from the French capital to make his Premier League return.

In an exclusive for the Mirror, Cross states that Manchester United players fully expect Pochettino to be their next boss. Despite the price to be paid to secure his services rumored to be £17.5million in order for the Ligue 1 outfit to receive the appropriate compensation baring on their own search for a potential replacement should he leave the Parc des Princes, United look set to pay whatever it takes to finally get their man after previously being interested in the former Tottenham manager before he crossed the channel.

Ronaldo in for criticism in wake of Solskjær sacking

But there may already be a clash of interests at Man United if Pochettino is indeed on his way to the club at some point this season, after suggestions that club star Cristiano Ronaldo is – at the very least – partially to blame for the Norwegian manager’s tenure at the club coming to an end.

Former Arsenal icon Paul Merson levied heavy criticism in the direction of the Portuguese legend when speaking on SkySports, stating “From day one, they’re not a better team with Ronaldo in it. It’s all snowballed for Solskjær. He had a plan, and then the Ronaldo situation threw it all out of the window just before the season started. They only went for him because they heard Man City was after him. It’s not like United was calling Juventus to ask if he’s available because Ronaldo is the missing link for United winning the Premier League. He isn’t!”

The concern could come from the type of football Pochettino is sure to champion at United should he take the reigns, and whether or not Ronaldo would be willing to slot into his role in the greater good of the collective rather than being chiefly concerned with personal matters on the pitch.

Should Mauricio Pochettino be confirmed, this is certainly a key talking point for the club moving forward and whether or not the Portuguese great would truly suit the Argentine headmaster.
