Norwich captain offers Billy Gilmour verdict Chelsea fans will love

Billy Gilmour’s Norwich stint

Billy Gilmour was one of several young Chelsea prodigies to benefit from the arrival of Frank Lampard in the Chelsea dugout.

The midfielder was handed his senior debut under Lampard and went on to notch 22 appearances for the Blues.

However, Gilmour saw his playing time reduced when Thomas Tuchel arrived, so a loan move for the 2021/22 season did make sense.

And, after Norwich saw Oliver Skipp return to Tottenham following a season-long loan last term, Gilmour coming in as a natural replacement seemed like a good move for both parties.

However, after starting in four of Norwich’s first five PL games, Gilmour would not make an appearance under Daniel Farke in the following six ties.

Gilmour verdict will please Chelsea fans

However, Farke has since left the club and has been replaced by Dean Smith.

Smith is facing an uphill battle to stave off relegation with the Canaries, who had won just one game before he took over.

But Norwich would pick up a huge 2-1 win in Smith’s first game at the helm this past weekend vs Southampton.

Gilmour would return to the starting line-up for the game and even provided an assist.

Now, following that match, Norwich captain Grant Hanley has backed Gilmour to play at the top whilst also praising his mentality and professionalism:

“I don’t think we need to worry about Billy [Gilmour. I think Billy will play at the top, there is no doubt about that.

“His mentality and how professional he is and how hard he works is never in doubt every day.

“He’s probably the best player in training and when he plays he’s probably the best player for us as well.

“Nothing to argue about there, it’s no surprise that when Billy comes in he does well.”
