Solskjaer provides Manchester United team news update & speaks on Jesse Lingard’s contract
Watford vs Manchester United
Manchester United’s first clash back after the international break will see them face a trip to Watford in what, at least for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is a must-win tie.
The Norwegian has come under increasing pressure of late following United slipping nine points adrift of the Premier League summit thanks to some less than subpar showings against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Red Devils have also looked less than convincing in a fairly weak Champions League group and are already out of the League Cup.
And as Manchester United must face Villarreal, Chelsea and Arsenal in their following three ties after Watford, Saturday’s game is made even more important as it is Solskjaer’s only decent chance of actually picking up a win during the next few weeks.
Solskjaer on Manchester United team news and Lingard’s contract
Before the match with Watford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken to the media on Friday.
When doing so, Ole provided a team news update on his side, with Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane the only confirmed absentees this weekend:
“This week has been really positive, there are a couple of doubts with illnesses and small niggles. Paul is out for a while, Rapha is out for a while, apart from that players will be coming back in the near future, some this weekend, some in the week, but that’s the same for other players.”
Elsewhere, Solskjaer was quizzed on Jesse Lingard’s contract situation following reports the midfielder is considering asking to leave the club on loan in January:
“Jesse is training really hard, really well and he’s ready and available for me, disappointed he’s not playing more. In regards to contract situations and talks, I’ve not been in them very closely.
“For me, Jesse is still a big part of this squad and important and he gives quality to the group every day.
“Every player wants to play as much as poss, with Jesse and all my players. They’re working really hard, can’t fault the attitude when they’re called upon. Jesse has done well when he’s played for us and with the games coming up he’s going to play a part.”
