Man United boss Solskjaer provides Edinson Cavani fitness update

Manchester United manager Edinson Cavani has, on Monday evening, provided an update on the fitness of key attacker Edinson Cavani.

Magpies thumped

Solskjaer and co. were of course back in action this past weekend.

In the club’s first outing on the back of the international break, United welcomed Newcastle to Old Trafford, for a Premier League showdown.

The matchup marked a noteworthy one for a whole host of reasons, with the hosts having been aware ahead of kick-off that a victory would guide them to the summit of the English top-flight.

Without doubt the main talking point surrounding the action in Manchester, though, came in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback.

After sealing a shock return to the Theatre of Dreams from Juventus late in the transfer window, CR7 was handed his 2nd debut for the club on Saturday, in a central attacking role.

And the Portuguese, in trademark fashion, went on to steal the show, notching a brace en route to an eventual 4-1 victory.

Cavani latest

Ronaldo, though, was not the only one of United’s attacking stars to have piqued attentions on Saturday afternoon.

Edinson Cavani, having failed to step foot on the pitch thus far in 2021/22 on the back of a late return from his summer vacation, was, at the very least, expected to take his place on the bench versus Newcastle.

His subsequent matchday omission therefore came as quite the surprise.

Speaking ahead of the action getting underway, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was therefore inevitably drawn on the whereabouts of his veteran hitman, and went on to reveal that he was ‘still not ready’, after picking up ‘a little knock’ in training during the week.
