Phil Foden offered new long-term Man City contract

Foden’s Man City stint

The 2020/21 season saw Phil Foden truly cement himself on the world stage.

The 20-year-old has always possessed obvious talent, but it was not until this past campaign that Pep Guardiola began to hand Foden consistent starts on the biggest stage.

Now, though, the versatile midfielder has established himself as an absolutely essential cog in Guardiola’s attack, having, towards the back end of 2020/21, taken Raheem Sterling’s spot in the Sky Blues’ XI.

All told, Foden would notch 16 goals and 10 assists in all competitions last term, whilst having put in some starring displays well beyond his years against teams such as Borussia Dortmund and PSG as Man City reached their first-ever Champions League finally.

Foden has since missed the start of the current campaign due to an injury he picked up at Euro 2020. However, he is no doubt once again set to be vital for Man City when he returns.

Foden offered new deal

And now, it appears Man City are aiming to tie their promising new star to a new deal.

Foden is currently contracted to the Sky Blues until 2024.

Now though, the Daily Star are reporting that the Englishman has been offered a new six-year deal, which would see him plying his trade at the Etihad until 2027.

A six-year contract, worth £150,000-a-week, is on the table for the England midfielder as a reward for his superb breakthrough year with both club and country, off the back of Euro 2020.

If Foden does put pen to paper on a new deal, he would be following the likes of Ederson, John Stones, Ruben Dias and Kevin De Bruyne in signing new contracts with City this year.
